Shilvington is set on a traditional Dorset farm. The Bartlett family have owned a farm since 1938 and the 4th generation, Martin Bartlett and family are now running the farm with the addition of Shilvington Escapes and rearing Shilvington Beef from its herd of Limosin cattle.
Family run for over 70 years
Martin is fondly known as “Farmer Barty” and works on the farm on daily basis with his wife Joby, family members and loyal farmhand, who has worked on the farm for 40 years. Down on the farm you really will get a sense of “family” as the Bartlett’s enjoy showing visitors around the farm, meeting the animals and taking a popular tour around the farmyard and surrounding area.

Kids love it down on the farm
It can be hard work getting some children to appreciate the outdoors. The lures of television, tablets, games consoles and computers make many kids reluctant to get outside, at Shilvington parents can find safe locations and organise activities that encourage kids to try new things, like searching for firewood.
Shilvington cows have been reared for almost 70 years.
Limousin cows make up the prestigious Shilvington herd which are well known for their lean meat, soft nature and beautiful golden red colouring. We pride ourselves in our animal husbandry and all our animals are part of a national farm assured scheme.
The Limousins are, bred and fed on the farm and stay suckling their mothers for most of their first year. The new born calves are usually smaller than most and therefore the birthing process is less stressful for the cow and calf. The calves are then fast growing and thrive on milk from mum and grass from our fields, only coming inside when our fields are too wet to sustain them. Then mum has a well-earned rest, and the calf is well looked after by us, which all goes to help give the meat a succulent taste and delicious texture.
